Indie Rock Law #39 – Turn down gigs that require a one hour set because you can’t play that long

Turn down gigs that require a one hour set because you can’t play that long.

Disclaimer: This is obviously not for bands accustomed to headlining tours but for the millions of bands with only an ep or an album to their name.

Recording and self-releasing an ep or a full-length is quite the accomplishment. It puts you in a good position to open for established touring bands and play a twenty or thirty minute set every night.

What about when you’re home and want to make some extra money by playing a few shows, though? Some of these clubs will expect you to play for an hour … or even worse … two hours. This leaves you in the difficult position of selling out and becoming a cover band or just not playing the gig.

You know what to do.
